A Perfect Circle Tickets
Formed in 1999, A Perfect Circle is a rock band from the United States, regarded by many as a supergroup. The idea for the act came about when the guitarist Billy Howerdel teamed up with Tool's vocalist, Maynard James Keenan, to put some songs together. Howerdel had previously been on tour with Tool, acting as their guitar technician, a role he had already fulfilled for other touring rock acts such as Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins and Fishbone. The two found that they had a like-minded attitude to rock. Howerdel ended up playing Keenan his demo tracks and the two decided to form A Perfect Circle to make them a reality.
A Perfect Circle's music
For five years, A Perfect Circle played a combination of alternative rock, alternative metal, hard rock and progressive rock, with some songs having touches of each sub-genre in them. The pair soon recruited a bassist by the name of Paz Lenchantin, famed for her work with Pixies. In addition, the former Failure guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen joined the band, as did Tim Alexander, the group's first drummer. The band went on to play their first gig at the Viper Club Reception in Los Angeles in 1999.
Soon, A Perfect Circle was being courted by several music labels and the members eventually decided to opt for Virgin Records. After recording a track called “The Hollow”, Alexander left the group to be replaced by Josh Freese, the former Guns 'n' Roses drummer. This incarnation of the band recorded the rest of the group's debut album. Mer de Noms was finished in 2000 and went on sale in May of that year. It sold over 180,000 copies in its first week and got to number four in the US Billboard Hot 100 albums, also charting in Canada. “Judith” was the first single taken from the album, getting to a high of four in the US Mainstream Rock Charts. “3 Libras” and the aforementioned “The Hollow” were also put out as singles. The work went on to be certified as platinum-selling.
After touring with Nine Inch Nails, the members of A Perfect Circle returned to the studio to make recordings for their follow-up album. However, Van Leeuwen began touring with Queens of the Stone Age before the album was completed, and Lenchantin also left. Although both could be heard on Thirteenth Step, most of the bass on the LP was played by Josh Freese, with Howerdel providing nearly all of the guitar work.
A new album followed in 2004, before the band split up in 2005. Re-forming in 2010, the group began to tour once more, with material drawn from their three studio albums. In 2014, A Perfect Circle announced that a new album was at the production stage.
