A long run at the very top of the Spanish music charts
Ana Belén began her acting career at an early age and became a regular on the silver screen in the 1960s and 1970s, which led to her meeting her husband, singer-songwriter Victor Manuel. It was also during this phase of her acting career that she decided to that she wanted to indulge her love of music as well, and she embarked on her solo music career. She released a succession of well-received albums, including ones that were destined to become classics. Her big moment came with the song "La Puerta de Alcalá", which she recorded with her husband. It earned the duo a number one hit on the national Spanish popular music charts in 1986, a position it held for seven weeks. This firmly established her as a major star in her new profession, a position she consolidated over the next decade or so. She broke ticket sales records at the time when she toured Spain with her aforementioned husband, plus Miguel Rios and Joan Manuel Serrat. Tribute albums to a Spanish music legend
Ana Belén had still to release her most famous and highest-selling album, however, and in 1997 she unleashed "Mirame", which contained a mixture of her own original compositions and duets with other popular Spanish artists. She's also paid tribute to the artists that influenced her own career, particularly with a pair of albums containing poems and songs to commemorate the life and career Frederico García Lorca. If you're looking for them, they're both called "Lorquiana". Her achievements have since included nominations for Latin Grammy Awards and plenty of local Spanish music recognitions of various sorts.
