Christopher Annen (guitarist), Henning May (lead vocals, pianist) and Severin Kantereit (drums) represent the nucleus of the band and have been playing music together since their high school days in Cologne, where they learned their trade as street musicians in the early days. Accomplished performers by virtue of several tours across Germany and veterans of numerous music festivals, the band has honed its sound to make the most of May's exceptionally raspy baritone, which sounds as good on rock songs as it does on their folksier tunes, as well as the band's penchant for using multiple percussion instruments like the accordion and harmonica in their music.
