The Estadio Jalisco is the third largest professional sports stadium in Mexico, and the ground has featured some incredible spectacles befitting of its special environment and atmosphere. During the 1970 world tournament, Pele’s Brazil team played two games and in total, the Estadio Jalisco hosted 8 tournament games, including a quarter-final and semi-final.
Week in and week out, of course, the stadium plays host to Fútbol Club Atlas and the away teams it plays as part of the Liga MX competition. Club Atlas are a firm fixture in Liga MX. This league is broken down into two distinct championships featuring the same 17 teams: Torneo Apertura is played between July and November, whilst Torneo Clausura takes place between January and May. The 2018/19 season was the club’s 49th consecutive season in Liga MX.
