Beyoncé and Jay-Z: star couple to bring On The Road II Tour to the UK
22 Grammy awards; 24 MTV Video Music Awards; Top Certified Artist in America during the 2000s; record sales of over 160 million; and some of the catchiest, most memorable R&B tunes ever produced (think "Crazy in Love", "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Baby Boy") – Beyoncé is one of the most successful and recognisable artists of the 21st century.
As a member of R&B girl band Destiny's Child, she helped the group achieve worldwide success with albums The Writing's on the Wall (1999) and Survivor (2001), which achieved combined sales of over 15 million and spawned global chart hits "Say My Name", "Bootylicious", and "Survivor". Following the group's hiatus and ultimate breakup, Beyoncé launched an instantly successful solo career; going on to become the highest-paid black musician in history and one of the top-20 best-selling artists of all time.
Her catchy melodies and soul belting vocals have helped her deliver six solo studio albums – all of which have topped the UK charts and sold over three million copies apiece worldwide – with latest release Lemonade proving another critical and commercial triumph. Along with her husband Jay-Z, Beyoncé ranks as one of the most popular and influential musicians on the planet, and the star couple have delighted fans by announced that they will tour the UK together in 2018; calling at London, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff. Beyoncé: non-stop hitmaker
Born Beyoncé Giselle Knowles – with her first name an adapted form of her mother's maiden surname – aspiring singer Beyoncé was placed in an early version of girl group Destiny's Child (along with childhood friend Kelly Rowland) at the age of eight by her entrepreneurial parents. Breakthrough album Writing's On the Wall arrived in 1999, spawning some of their best known singles including "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name". Riding a wave of critical hype, they released chart-topping third album Survivor, which spawned pop classics such as "Independent Women Part I" and "Bootylicious".
The group announced an indefinite hiatus in 2002, but re-united two years later for the release of their fourth and final studio album Destiny Fulfilled (2004). During that time, however, Beyoncé had fast outgrown the group; featuring on rapper (and future husband) Jay-Z's track "03 Bonnie & Clyde", before he helped produce her debut single "Crazy in Love" – a worldwide smash hit that propelled album Dangerously in Love to number one across the globe. Not helped by Beyoncé's runaway success, Destiny's Child officially disbanded in 2005, before Queen Bey's second record B'Day saw more chart success with top five hits including "Deja Vu" and "Irreplaceable".
Third LP I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008) debuted her new alter ego and proved another roaring success; spawning iconic tracks "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)", "If I Were a Boy" and "Halo". After a collaboration with Lady Gaga on "Telephone", Beyoncé was undoubtedly the biggest artist on the planet, and became the first solo female artist to headline the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury in more than 20 years in 2011. Her fourth studio album, aptly named 4, dropped the same year, with singles "Love on Top" and "Run the World (Girls)" hitting the top of the charts.
Keeping her fans on their toes, she brought out an eponymous fifth record at the end of 2013 which, even with no prior promotion, saw Beyoncé become the first woman in chart history to have five consecutive albums debut at number one. In 2016, after an incredible performance at Super Bowl 50 and a huge build up, Beyoncé dropped sixth album Lemonade. Featuring an array of fellow globally recognised artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Jack White the record was, even by Beyoncé's standards, a huge critical and commercial success.
In what will be one of the biggest musical events in history, Beyoncé and Jay-Z will now bring their On The Road II Tour to the UK in 2018; calling at huge venues in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff. So what are you waiting for? Buy Beyoncé & Jay-Z tickets at StubHub.
