From George Martin to Top Gun

The core Cheap Trick line-up of frontman Robin Zander, lead guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos first came together in 1974. After signing to Epic Records, the group released both their eponymous debut album and sophomore "In Color" in 1977 and third LP, "Heaven Tonight", a year later. The band hit the big time in 1979 with "Cheap Trick at Budokan", a live album recorded in Japan, which spawned their first US Top 10 single, "I Want You to Want Me". Their fourth studio effort, "Dream Police", continued their winning streak, while 1980's George Martin-produced "All Shook Up" helped to establish Cheap Trick as an arena headlining act. The band then contributed songs to the "Up the Creek" and "Top Gun" soundtracks and in 1988, they reached the top of the US Hot 100 with "The Flame", the lead single from "Lap of Luxury". Following a hits collection, the band attracted a new generation of fans with 1997's self-titled LP, a live album featuring two members of Smashing Pumpkins and the theme tune to hit sitcom "That '70s Show". More than 5000 performances under their belt
