Born David Adedeji Adeleke in Atlanta, Georgia Davido is a Nigerian-American singer, rapper, record producer, performer and Afropop artist. Since 2011, Davido has been releasing music in Nigeria, winning numerous awards and making his mark throughout Africa and the world.

Trivia

Davido started singing at an early age. By the time he was 11, he had begun singing and writing songs. At 13, he began producing his own music. While still in high school, Davido joined the band K.B. International, later leaving the band to pursue a solo career. By 18, Davido and his brother Adewale Adeleke opened their own record label, HKN Music, which hosts artists including B Red, Sina Rambo, Danagog and DeeKay.

This is something he often references in songs, rapping about how she inspired him throughout his artistic career. Not only is Davido an award-winning singer and rapper, but he's also an accomplished songwriter, record producer and label owner. He has produced records for artists like Sauce Kid, Skales, Tiwa Savage and Naeto C. Despite his young age, Davido already has many awards under his belt, like the Kora Award for Best Newcomer, BET Best International Act: Africa Award, Ben TV Award for Music Video of the Year, MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act, MTV Africa Music Award for Artist of the year, five awards from The Headies and seven Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Breakthrough

Davido first garnered success in Nigeria in 2011 with his first single, "Back When," featuring admired Nigerian rapper Naeto C, who brought the song to national media attention. Davido's second single, "Dami Duro" quickly found success, earning him awards from Dynamix All Youth Awards, Nigeria Entertainment Awards and Channel O Music Awards. Davido's first album, "Omo Baba Olowo," was also huge critical and financial success.

Hit Albums

Since its debut 2012, "Omo Baba Olowo" has been a hit. Davido achieved this by focusing on the African music scene, which allowed him not only to connect with existing talent there but also to form a bond with enthusiastic African music fans. To make "Omo Baba Olowo," Davido collaborated with producers like Maleek Berry, Spellz, Jay Sleek, Mr. Chido, Shizzi, Dokta Frabz and Theory Sounds to create his signature Afropop sound.
