FKA Twigs: Don't Miss Her
FKA Twigs is on the top of the world. This young woman is young, wildly popular, and critically respected. An accomplished singer-songwriter, producer, and dancer, FKA Twigs has firmly established herself as one of the stars of Britain's pop music world. Luckily for us, she performs frequently and puts on an exciting live show. There's nothing better than seeing a musician at the top of their game; a chance to watch a FKA Twigs gig is not to be missed.
Schedule
With her dedication to meticulously produced pop albums, it's hard to believe that FKA Twigs maintains such a busy concert schedule as well. Starting in her home country for her 2014 worldwide tour, FKA Twigs is set to stop at venues such as the Brighton Dome Centre, the Bristol Trinity Centre, and London's Hackney Empire. Her tour also takes her all over Europe to cities including Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Cologne, Berlin, and Warsaw, before crossing the ocean for a lengthy tour of the United States and Canada, in which she will crisscross the country for dozens of show dates. With this abundance of opportunities to see her live, there's no excuse to miss an upcoming FKA Twigs show.
Trivia
FKA Twigs (the FKA stands for "formerly known as") has become a bona-fide pop celebrity thanks to her romance with the teen idol Robert Pattinson. She was born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, and was focused on a future career as a gymnast and dancer before she began making music at the age of sixteen. Before her big break, she worked as a backup dancer in music videos for stars as Kylie Minogue and Taio Cruz. It must be a serious adjustment for a woman who grew up in rural Gloucestershire to now find herself in magazines and tabloids.
Band/Singer
FKA Twigs has been influenced by both the pop R&B of Beyonce and the synth beats of groups like Portishead. As a British singer-songwriter on the verge of both electronic dance music and singer-songwriter emotionalism, she is part of a 21st century London sound that includes James Blake and the xx; Pitchfork has identified her in this milieu in the act of gracing her with a rare 8.8 review for her first record-length release, LP1.
Breakthrough
FKA Twigs self-released her first EP--simply titled EP1--on Bandcamp in 2012 while working as a backup dancer in London. Her rise has been fast and readily deserved. She often releases her new songs along with eerie, highly original music videos. 2014 saw her breakthrough into the mainstream--she was on the cover of The FADER in April and was listed as one of Billboard's "14 Artists to Watch in 2014". The notoriously hard-to-please Pitchfork has been kind to her and, as a nominee for Britain's 2014 Mercury Prize for album of the year, it's safe to say that FKA Twigs is here to stay.
Hit Albums
EP1 was followed by EP2, which received excellent reviews and a general consensus that she has become one of Britain's hottest, most relevant R&B artists. LP1 was released on the Young Turks record label and garnered amazing reviews throughout the musical and mainstream press. Her beautiful voice, tight songwriting, and exceptional production have all been eagerly received by her huge and growing audience.
Show Experience
With FKA Twigs background in music and dance, it's no surprise that her live show is highly choreographed and feature the talents of exceptional backup dancers. The show features songs off LP1 as well as her earlier material, and is an exciting spectacle at home, on a festival stage, or as a concert hall headliner.
