Garage Nation Brings the Best Garage Music to UK Fans
Since the 1990s, Garage Nation has brought fans across the UK performances from the biggest names in Garage music, from Wookie to Mike Delinquent. Like electronic dance music -- the genre from which garage is derived -- garage music is best heard live, and with other fans.
Schedule
Garage Nation has shows scheduled in cities all across the UK, including gigs in Bedford, London, and Oxford. Garage Nation tickets always include multiple acts for one great price. The organisation is regularly represented on the music festival circuit, too, and most recently had a tent for fans at The United Festival.
Trivia
Garage Nation was formed in 1997 to bring the best garage music to fans. The organisation was co-founded by promoter and actor Terry Stone, who is best known for playing Tony Tucker in the movie "Rise of the Footsoldier." His co-founder, Jason Kaye, also helped him create Rave Nation in the 1990s.
Bands/Singers
A wide variety of acts take the stage during Garage Nation shows. Among the most popular are Wookie, Pied Piper, DJ EZ, Artful Dodger, Royal T, Matt Jam Lamont, DJ Luck, and MC Neat. Artful Dodger is one of the first garage bands to have a top 10 hit with their 1999 song "Re-rewind." Pied Piper has also been with Garage Nation since the early days in the mid-90s. DJ Pied Piper, along with The Masters of Ceremonies, had a No. 1 hit with "Do You Really Like It?" back in 2001.
Many of these acts also perform on Garage Nation's CDs. The latest Garage Nation compilation features songs from their regular performers: Wookie, Disclosure, Agent X, Sticky, Sole Fusion, Route 94, The Jam Experience, Jam & Keys, Kristine Blond, Kele Le Roc, Cause & Affect, Grades, Gabriel, DJ Zinc, The Streets, Redlight, the Mike Delinquent Project, So Solid Crew, Legitimate Scandal, Ms. Dynamite, and Shadow Child.
Breakthrough
Garage Nation's first show launched in 1997 and has remained popular since. One of the most popular UK Garage artist of all time is also a familiar face at Garage Nation shows. Wookie, whose real name is Jason Chue, scored a Top 20 hit in the UK with the single "Battle." Wookie began his career in the early 1990s, working as a producer and DJ, remixing hits for Destiny's Child, Whitney Houston, and Public Enemy. In the late 90s, he scored his first big underground club hit with the track "Scrappy," which gave him the momentum to crossover into the mainstream in the next year. Due to his early success in Garage music, he is often considered one of the innovators of the genre. Mike Delinquent is another Garage artist who has more recent success with his breakthrough remixes of the Wretch 32 song "Traktor" and Yasmin's track, "Finish Line," which became one of the summer's biggest hits.
Hit Albums
Along with Wookie and Mike Delinquent, DJ Luck & MC Neat have also had much success in the Garage genre. They performed three of the most popular garage songs to hit the UK market during that time period. The duo, whose real names are Joel Samuels and Michael Rose, scored three consecutive Top 10 hits in the UK from 1999 to 2000. "A Little Bit of Luck" was their first single to hit the charts, peaking at No. 9 in 1999. The following year, they released a Garage cover of "Master Blaster (Jammin)" by Stevie Wonder called "Masterblaster 2000," and it became a smash hit, going all the way to No. 5 on the British charts. Also in 2000, their version of "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" made it to No. 8, making them a household name in the UK.
Show Experience
A Garage Nation show is more of a party than a concert. It is the perfect place for fans to forget their problems, jump around and, most importantly, dance. Everyone gets so much energy from the musical acts, and they give it right back in return. The performances are also accompanied by a light show that also intensifies the energy in every venue. While the set up is simple with just the performers or DJs up on stage, each performance is filled with heart-thumping excitement--you can feel the crowd being uplifted higher and higher with each song. The passion of the performers at a Garage Nation show is contagious and most fans leave wanting more.
