Jack White: one of the most influential musicians of the 21st century

Born John Anthony Gillis in 1975, this enigmatic frontman was an upholsterer in his native Detroit before finding fame. After playing drums in a few different bands he formed The White Stripes in 1997 with Meg White. They enjoyed a cult status until 2001, before third album White Blood Cells suddenly (and unexpectedly) became an enormous commercial breakthrough.

Follow up Elephant (2003) is widely regarded as one of the best albums ever produced, and bagged the duo a Glastonbury headline slot. White's noisey, high-energy performances earned the group a reputation as one of the best live acts in the world, with two more critically acclaimed albums Get Behind Me Satan (2005) and Icky Thump (2007) following. 

With The White Stripes on hiatus, White fronted supergroup The Raconteurs; helping to produce two stunning albums – 2006's Broken Boy Soldiers (including hit single "Steady As She Goes") and 2008 follow up Consolers of the Lonely. Similarly, he recorded three albums with The Dead Weather alongside Alison Mosshart of The Kills.

After The White Stripes officially came to an end in 2011 (over four years after their final record), White released Blunderbuss – which, like with many of the albums throughout his career, saw White almost singlehandedly written, recorded, and produce the record. Blunderbuss proved to be another huge critical and commercial success for White, while 2014 follow up Lazaretto was equally successful.
