Jason Derulo: taking centre stage
A born entertainer, Jason Derulo explored – and excelled at – music from a very early age. He began performing at the age of three and started his songwriting career in his teens; penned a track named "Crush on You" for a lucky girl in high school.
Polishing his songwriting offering in the mid-2000s, Derulo began composing tracks for artists such as Danity Kane, Sean Kingston, Lil Wayne, Cassie, Diddy and Pitbull. In 2006, he won the grand prize on Showtime at the Apollo and, later that year, producer J.R. Rotem signed Derulo to his Beluga Heights Records label. In 2009, he made the transition from behind the scenes to artist in his own right, releasing the hit "Whatcha Say", which soared to number one on the US charts and was shortly followed by his first, self-titled album.
The title track of Derulo's second full-length studio album, Future History, was an international hit, while his third album, Tattoos, boasted collaborations with 2 Chainz, The Game and Jordin Sparks.
Everything is 4 (2015) sold 22,000 copies in its first week alone, and 2017’s highly anticipated 777 was announced by Derulo at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.
