Jeff Lynne's ELO: 70s rockers still going strong

A recipient of three Ivor Novello Awards from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors – including the award for Outstanding Services to British Music – Jeff Lynne is one of the finest artists and producers of his generation. After co-founding the rock group Electric Light Orchestra with Roy Wood with drummer Bev Bevan in 1970, Lynne seized control of the group in 1972 and has wrote, arranged, and produced almost all of their subsequent records since.

The group has achieved a string of top 10 albums and singles, including two that topped the UK charts: the disco-inspired Discovery (1979) and the science-fiction-themed concept album Time (1981), while more recently 2015's Alone in the Universe received some of the finest reviews of Lynne's long career. During ELO's original 13-year period of active recording and touring, they sold over 50 million records worldwide.

Jeff Lynne: one of music's great performers and producers

After ELO's original disbandment in 1986, Lynne released two solo albums: Armchair Theatre (1990) and Long Wave (2012) – both of which received strong critical acclaim – while also producing works for Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Tom Jones, Aerosmith, Bonnie Tyler, Joe Cocker and many more. He also produced four tracks on Regina Spektor's fifth album Far (2009). 

Lynne reformed ELO in 2014 and resumed concert touring. That same year he received a star on the Birmingham Walk of Stars and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame the following year. Two years later, in 2017, Lynne – along with Wood, Bevan and Tandy – was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of ELO.

In June 2017, Lynne's ELO performed at Wembley Stadium to a crowd of 60,000; playing a 24 song setlist including "Do Ya", "Twilight" and "Xanadu".
