Khruangbin – where it all started

The band's humble beginnings began in Houston Texas in the early 2004s. Members Mark Speer and Donald DJ Johnson met whilst playing in a church gospel band in Texas. They later met Laura Lee and found common ground over their liking for Afghan music and middle eastern architecture. The band went on to tour as a trio and performed at notable festivals, such as Glastonbury Festival, Bonnaroo Music Festival and South by Southwest. During this time, they were named "new band of the week" by The Guardian. They collaborated with Bonobo on the song "Calf born in Winter", which was a real success with audiences. Wheat makes this band unique is the use of various cultural influences in their music. Drawing from middle eastern sounds and Latin American flavour has put them in a lane of their own. They also crafted the instrumental for "Kuda Bhi Assman Si" which was a song for the Bollywood film Dharti.
