LCD Soundsystem: electronica legends to headline All Points East festival in 2018 after acclaimed comeback album American Dream
After calling it quits back in 2011 following an outstanding performance at Madison Square Garden, electronica leaders LCD Soundsystem reunited in 2016 for a headline slot at Coachella Music Festival and a full set of tour dates.
Led by the charismatic James Murphy, the American group are renowned for their unique style and experimental approach to composition, with critically acclaimed 2017 release This is Happening landing at number three in the UK charts and confirming the band's place as one of the most innovative acts of the '00s.
To the delight of fans, LCD Soundsystem have also announced that they will open the brand new All Points East festival in London's Victoria Park next May. The show will be one of the band's biggest headline gigs in the UK to date, with LCD Soundsystem tickets available right here at StubHub UK.
LCD Soundsystem: critically acclaimed fourth album marks triumphant reunion
James Murphy and his band made their name with gritty dance beats and witty lyrics on top – perhaps unsurprising given the singer was once invited to write for Seinfeld – and it didn't take long for them to become popular in the underground music scene. By 2005 LCD Soundsystem had achieved mainstream success with their eponymous debut release with the single "Daft Punk is Playing at My House" giving the band their first top 40 hit in the UK.
With two Grammy nominations and a commission from Nike to make a running track as part of an ongoing promotion – the epic "45:33" – 2005 proved a breakthrough year. Sophomore album Sound of Silver was released in 2007 to critical acclaim, hitting the number one spot in the US Electronic Charts and receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Album, with single "All My Friends" a standout hit.
Despite rumours of a split, the band allayed such fears by releasing a cover of Alan Vega's "Bye Bye Bayou" in celebration of the 2009 Record Store Day. Third album This is Happening finally landed the following year, with the video for single "Drunk Girls" directed by Spike Jonze. After charting in the top ten on both sides of the Atlantic, the LP proved their greatest success yet. They were widely praised for their mastery of the dance genre, with Pitchfork calling it 'pretty perfect', but in 2011 the group officially announced their disbandment after a final show at Madison Square Garden.
In late 2015, media speculation arose that a reunion was on the cards and by the end of the year fans' wishes were granted. Murphy dropped Christmas-themed single "Christmas Will Break Your Heart" on the eve of the holiday, before the announcement of a headline slot at Coachella 2016 and long awaited tour dates.
