The history of Maceo Plex

  Born in Texas in 1978, Eric Estornel started to make a name for himself as a DJ during the mid-90s. Broadly speaking, you could define him as a house or techno producer, but in reality his music is much more complex, utilising elements from a range of different genres including funk, electro and electronica. He has produced music under various names, such as Maetrik (from 2001 onwards), Mariel Ito (2005 onwards), and perhaps his most well known moniker, Maceo Plex (from 2009 onwards). A lot of his fame is owed to his success on the island of Ibiza, where he has played to packed dance floors for many years. It was also here that he picked up the 2016 "Ibiza Music Event" award at the DJ Awards ceremony for his popular party, Mosaic by Maceo Plex.   Eric Estornel is known for being an incredibly talented producer, and his diversity is one of the factors that make a Maceo Plex concert such a great night out. As Maceo Plex, he has put out several full-length albums including the 2011 release "Life Index", which was heavily influenced by the house music scene in Detroit and Chicago. His 2017 album, "Solar", which is named after his son, was more in the style of electronica. The Maceo Plex discography also includes dozens of singles and remixes. Some of his most-loved tracks include 2010’s "Vibe Your Love" and 2015’s "Solar Detroit". Some of his best remixes are of songs by other great electronic music artists like Röyksopp and Maribou State. The incredible performances he puts on have resulted in years of extensive tours and playing on the biggest stages in electronic music. For example, his early-2019 tour of Canada, the USA and South America was called "Mutant Tour" and attracted thousands of fans.
