North Sea Jazz Festival Tickets
Purchasing North Sea Jazz Festival tickets means that you will be part of the biggest indoor jazz festival in the world. The event plays host to around 1,200 exciting and diverse artists and 25,000 visitors per day. While the focus is mainly upon the many different sub-genres of jazz, there is a tremendous range of different types of music to choose from, such as blues, gospel, funk, soul and drum and bass. Truly, it is a festival which has something for everybody.
Schedule
The North Sea Jazz Festival is traditionally held over the second weekend of July in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. It had previously been held at The Hague before the original venue was demolished and the event moved to the Ahoy venue in the Netherlands' second city.
Trivia
The North Sea Jazz Festival was the brainchild of jazz enthusiast and retired businessman Paul Acket. He sold his pop magazine publishing company to fund the festival and highlight the massive range of different types of jazz music. Some of the biggest names in the genre have played the three-day festival, including Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie. It isn't just established stars who are invited to play at the festival, however - youth groups have been booked in the past and the Bird Awards are presenting to promising newcomers who the organisers feel deserve greater recognition.
Bands
As well as jazz performers, the 2015 festival promised a line-up that included some of the biggest names in pop music. Major artists such as Emilie Sande, Hozier, Jessie Ware, John Legend and Lionel Richie were due to perform, alongside soul groups such as Alabama Shakes and jazz groups like Jasper Blom Quartet. Lady Gaga was also scheduled to appear alongside Tony Bennett, in a continuation of the duo's easy-listening collaboration.
Breakthrough
The festival was first held in 1976 and was immediately successful. Nine thousand music fans visited the event during its first weekend and listened to over thirty hours of performances. The attendance rate and positive reviews more than justified Paul Acket's decision to sponsor the event and the festival went from strength to strength, becoming an annual event.
Hit Albums
Emilie Sande fans made her single "Next To Me" one of the biggest selling tracks of 2013-14. Similarly, Hozier's legion of admirers made "Take Me To Church" one of the top five selling tracks of 2015. Lionel Richie has an embarrassment of riches in his back catalogue, with songs such as "Hello," "All Night Long" and "Easy" considered modern classics. John Legend is responsible for another one of 2014's smash hits with the song "All Of Me," while Alabama Shakes have released two albums that have sold well and been critically acclaimed. Lady Gaga is one of the biggest stars in the world today, with hits such as "Paparazzi" while her partner, Tony Bennett, has performed some of the greatest songs in jazz, such as "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" and "The Lady Is A Tramp.
Show Experience
The North Sea Jazz festival is described as being a music lover's paradise. The chilled vibes of the Netherlands help to create a relaxed atmosphere, while music is being performed all around from the multiple stages. The diverse mix of music and shopping stalls help to create a festival that feels truly unique and totally memorable.
