Trivia

The band has worked with legendary producer Leo Abrahams, who has helped innovative and renowned artists along the lines of Brian Eno, David Byrne, Jon Hopkins and Wild Beasts get their names out into the music world. That wasn't the band's only brush with fame, however. Lead singer Max Colombie was a runner-up in the Belgian preliminaries for the 2005 Junior Eurovision Song Contest when he was just 14 years old. Colombie has spent most of his life living in Brussels and attributes his creative spark to the city and how it encourages individuality and expression.

Band

Oscar and the Wolf was founded in 2010 by members Max Colombie, Ozan Bozdag, Kris Verhelst, Roland Spooren, Claudio Arduini and Jasper Bullynck. The band started out while the group of musicians were studying art and painting together in Ghent, and Colombie decided he wanted to start playing his songs with the backing of a live band. He sought out musicians in the area and ended up forming Oscar and the Wolf. The name came from an imagined daydreamer, Oscar, who's darker, more extreme side comes out in the form of a wolf.

Breakthrough

Though quite popular now, the band didn't start to gain attention from critics until 2013 when the single "Orange Sky" was released. Their debut album Entity came the following year and was named Best Belgian Debut of 2014 by culture review website Cutting Edge.

Hit Albums

Entity peaked at #1 on the charts in Belgium and #54 on the Dutch Albums Chart. The prior single "Orange Sky" peaked at #35 in Belgium, while Entity singles "Princes" and "Strange Entity" peaked at #18 and #16, respectively. The album was hailed by critics as ethereal, sexy and futuristic, which also serves as an apt description for the band's live shows.
