Nottingham group celebrates 30 years of rock

Originally formed under the name Pitch Shifter in 1989, this band from Nottingham started out playing local pubs and bars along with other unknown bands in the area, slowly gaining a reputation for making music outside the norm. Their first studio effort ‘Industrial' was released in 1991 as a preview of the underground, anti-establishment angst that would define the group's early years, gaining further expression on the EP ‘Submit' (1992) and their second album ‘Desensitized' (1993). The band's next release, ‘The Remix War' in 1994, featured collaborations with Biohazard, and Therapy?, while another with Funeral for a Friend featured on a later album. Although the group gained fans in the UK and the US, commercial success was fleeting because radio stations found their sound too intense for their rotations at that time. Yet Pitch Shifter remained a crowd pleaser as evidenced by their performance at the 1995 Phoenix Festival, when overly enthusiastic fans rushed the stage, bringing their set to a premature end, and an appearance at the Dynamo Open Air Festival in the Netherlands in 1996. Unmask the dysfunctionally functional genius of Pitchshifter

In the aftermath of the release of the ‘Infotainment' album in 1996, the band officially changed its name to Pitchshifter and released the single ‘Genius', which was taken from their fourth studio recording, ‘www.pitchshifter.com', both of which became bestsellers for the band. Moreover, the inclusion of ‘Genius' on the soundtrack of the 1997 feature film ‘Mortal Kombat: Annihilation' was a massive boost for the group when they went platinum due to the film's huge popularity. ‘Deviant' and ‘PSI' were the next two albums released by Pitchshifter and when an ‘indefinite hiatus' was announced in 2003, many of their fans were taken by surprise. A new EP ‘None for All and All for One' and the ‘Back From the Dead' tour heralded Pitchshifter's return in 2006 but they would not appear in public again until a 2018 reunion marking 20 years since the ‘www.pitchshifter.com' album. Nevertheless, Pitchshifter has left its mark on the music world, helping to usher in a new subgenre of heavy metal rock. Dysfunction is a function and it's called… genius.
