Playboi Carti Tickets

Born in 1996, Playboi Carti is an American songwriter and rapper who comes from Atlanta in Georgia. He embarked on his musical career in 2011, but is probably best known in the UK for his 2017 mixtape release, also called Playboi Carti. Born Jordan Carter, Playboi Carti assumed the stage name of $ir Cartier for a while before adopting his current moniker. Playboi Carti is a hip-hop performer who tends to operate in the sub-genre known as trap, like many rappers from the Southern States in America. As such, Carti tends to use triplets in his vocalisations and will often use subject matter that delves into the seedier sides of life. However, he is also noted as a cloud rap musician, and will frequently use lo-fi effects to achieve this distinctive sound.

Playboi Carti's early career

As a boy, Carter went to the North Springs Charter High School after his family relocated from Atlanta to Riverdale, situated in central Georgia. His interest in hip-hop music developed while he was still at school, but it was not until 2012 that his first release came out. This was a $ir Cartier mixtape, entitled Young Misfit. It was made available in November of that year by the TFX label, for digital download only.

Playboi Carti's development

Aged 17, Carter assumed the persona of Playboi Carti and went on to release a couple of singles. The first of these was a 2015 song named “Broke Boi”, which was soon followed up by “Fetti”. The latter of these two tracks featured Maxo Kream, a Texas-based rapper and producer. It also included contributions from Dash, a member of ASAP Mob. Around this time, Playboi Carti also undertook some work as a model.

In 2016, Playboi Carti was invited to appear on ASAP Mob's debut studio album, a work that would later be called Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends. While in development, the rapper contributed to two tracks that would make the final cut: “London Town” and “Telephone Calls”. The second of these ended up being released as a single from the album, helping to raise Playboi Carti's profile further.

Gaining praise from many music publications, such as XXL, Pitchfork and HotNewHipHop, Playboi Carti's eponymous mixtape was first unleashed on the public in April 2017. It featured guest slots from some of the other hip-hop artists he'd been collaborating with. The likes of A$AP Rocky, Lil Uzi Vert and Leven Kali all made contributions. The rapper would go on to feature on Lust for Life, a Lana Del Rey album that got to number one in the UK and the US.
