SDP, the lighter side of German hip-hop
SDP is yet another in the seemingly endless list of European hip-hop production duos. Their music is somewhat eclectic, featuring typical hip-hop rhythms and arrangements, but with a pop singer-songwriter at the centre – Dag-Alexis Kopplin. The other member is well-known Berlin hip-hop producer, Vincent Stein, better known as Beatzarre. If you're keen to explore the German side of pop-rap, you can buy or sell SDP tickets on StubHub.
The most famous unknown band in the world
SDP has managed to put together a really long music career, hitting their 20th anniversary in 2019. They were originally known by their full name, Stonedeafproduction, but shortened it to less of a mouthful when they released their debut album in 2004 – having been performing for over four years already. Their pop-dominated hip-hop sound has steadily built a huge following across Germany and other European countries, and unlike other bands that hit their straps in the first five years of their careers, SDP tickets to live shows didn't attract too much attention. By 2012, their only visit to the charts had been reaching number 51 on the German Top 100 with their ironically titled album, as it turned out, "Die bekannteste unbekannte Band der Welt" ("The Most Famous Unknown Band in the World"). Stein had made a name for himself as a producer, however, working with other hip-hop artists like Bushido and pop bands like Ich und Ich, but little did they know how much things were about to change over the next two years...
A swift rise to the top of the charts
The big breakthrough SDP came in 2014, when all of a sudden they began to enjoy a surge of popularity that would sweep them all the way to the top. Their next album, "Bunte Rapublik Deutschpunk", stormed the dizzying heights of the top 5. Their next two albums, "Zurück in die Zukunst" and "Die bunte Seite der Macht" eclipsed that by both hitting #2, and eventually in 2019, SDP had their first chart-topping album with "Die unendlichste Geschichte". They can definitely now count themselves as fixtures of German mainstream pop, not just the Berlin hip-hop scene. Almost flying under the radar for a decade and a half, they've become far more successful than other bands and duos from the Spandau area, like Paul Kalkbrenner, the electro star, and hip-hop artist Tim Bendzko. You can still get a good taste of their early material at their live concerts though, as they're one of those bands that still celebrates their lesser-known material on stage. So, grab yourself some SDP tickets on StubHub and discover a band that has now become the most unknown famous band in the world.
