Boomtown Rats Biography - Punk Rock Protagonists

This hart-topping group first arrived on the scene in 1975 after forming in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. The band soon moved to London and became key figures in the burgeoning punk rock movement. After being recruited by Ensign Records the group released their debut effort 'Lookin' After No. 1', in 1977 which quickly charted within the Top 40 and lead the way for their self-titled studio album released in September that same year. Their second album proved to be even more successful than the first, spawning three hit singles including the chart topping hit 'Rat Trap'. Still, their most successful hit came in the form of 1979 single 'I Don't Like Mondays'. Characterised by Geldof's famously slurred vocals, the song has become an anthem for the disenfranchised and disillusioned.

The singer may have become equally famous for his charity work - notably with Live Aid and Live 8 - over the years since the band's 1986 split, but their 2013 reformation has given him a chance to remind everyone why he's such a revered musical legend.
