The Cult - Hidden City
Hailing from Bradford, West Yorkshire, this British hard rock band came together in the early '80s, fusing heavy metal with elements of post-punk gothic rock in breakthrough tracks like 'She Sells Sanctuary' and 'Fire Woman'. Now with a line-up that still includes founding members Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, the group are making their return in 2016 with tenth studio album Hidden City, followed by a UK wide tour. The album will be the third in a trilogy, following Born into This and Choice of Weapon and the band have promised a heavier guitar sound within the new material, which promises to make for an electric live show. Catch them in a venue near you and get The Cult tickets from StubHub UK.
The Cult - UK Live Dates for 2016 Announced
After leaving his former band Southern Death Cult, vocalist Ian Astbury started working with guitarist Billy Duffy, a former member of The Nosebleeds alongside Morrissey. Their first album under a new moniker Dreamtime would find success in the independent charts, but it wasn't until the release of single 'She Sells Sanctuary' in 1985 that they would break through into the mainstream. Moving from punk orientated riffs to '60s psychedelia hooks, second album Love hit the number 4 spot in the UK charts and to date has sold more than 2.5 million copies. Third album Electric saw even greater success, but tension within the group saw multiple members come and go in the following years. Percussion proved the trickiest position to pin down a permanent member for, with current drummer John Tempesta the group's 11th in total.
Ceremony and their following self-titled release would only see limited success in the charts, but have since earned appreciation. However, whilst on tour in South America in 1995, the band surprised fans by announcing a sudden split, with all members going on to pursue other projects. They were only apart for four years though, and enjoyed a sell-out Cult Rising tour to celebrate their 1999 reunion, as well releasing new album Beyond Good and Evil. After another short break the group returned for another tour, while a deal with Roadrunner Records in 2007 resulting eighth studio album Born into This, which spawned singles 'Dirty Little Rockstar' and 'Illuminated'. After an appearance at London's Hammersmith Apollo in 2011 Astbury announced their ninth record Choice of Weapon would drop the following year. With tenth album Hidden City released in 2016, 33 years after the band's formation, fans are invited to commemorate the momentous occasion at their UK tour dates.
