The Hives: heading up 2000s new rock revolution

Formed in 1993, Swedish group The Hives rose to international stardom in the early 2000s with their celebrated sophomore LP Veni Vidi Vicious, a paraphrase of Julius Caesar's famous quote 'I Came, I Saw, I Conquered'. The group's infectious strut 'n' roll took over charts across the globe, after the band were proclaimed as being part of a new rock revolution by music bible NME.

Picked up by the newly formed label Poptones in 2001 by former Oasis manager Alan McGee, the quintet earned a loyal following in the UK thanks to compilation release Your New Favourite Band. Their popularity on the rise, the five-piece's reputation for unpredictable and energetic live shows soon spread and The Hives tickets started to sell out instantly.

They followed up their success with popular LPs Tyrannosaurus Hives (number seven on the UK album charts) and The Black and White Album (the group's most successful record), with the band touring extensively and developing a reputation as UK festival show-stealers. Fifth full-length studio album Lex Hives landed in 2012, released on their own label Disque Hives and containing bonus tracks produced by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.
