The Jesus and Mary Chain Biography - Psychedelic Noise Rock Rebels

This heroic alternative act emerged from East Kilbride in Scotland in the late 1970s, when unemployed punk rockers Jim and William Reid were inspired to form a band after listening to the ground-breaking music of The Sex Pistols and The Velvet Underground. Starting out as The Poppy Seeds, nobody knows the origin of the band's name as we know it today. They may or may not have gotten their name from an offer on the back of a cereal packet to send away for a gold Jesus and Mary chain�

When they first started performing in the early 1980s, the controversial band garnered a reputation for their ferocious live concerts. The Reid brothers would often perform with their backs to the audience and the shows soon descended into chaos. In the 1980s and 1990s, this irreverent rock band gathered a horde of devoted fans off the back of standout albums like Psychocandy (1985), Honey's Dead (1992)and Stoned and Dethroned (1994). The complexity of psychedelic, noise-layered tracks like 'Happy Place', 'Never Understand' and 'Just Like Honey' helped them achieve a legendary reputation.
