The White Buffalo Biography - From College Gigs to Sons of Anarchy
Oregon singer-songwriter Jake Smith grew up listening to punk music but would only pick up a guitar himself at the age of 19. His distinctive earthy sound - influenced by the likes of The Descendants and everything from classic Americana to country - first emerged during college when he started writing original material. Taking on a stage name drawn from a hat, he released Hogtied Like a Rodeo in 2002 which he would later re-record in a friend's living room. Smith's unique style caught the attention of pro surfer Chris Malloy, who chose to use single 'Wrong' in the movie Shelter. This exposure led to a number of other opportunities including feature spots for three of his songs in hit shows Sons of Anarchy and Californication.
After touring alongside other artists such as Xavier Rudd and Jack Johnson, Smith signed with Unison Music, releasing second EP Prepare for Black and Blue - recorded in just six days. 2013 LP Shadows, Greys, and Evil Ways was praised for its honesty, and earned Smith appearances on major American talk shows. Now after the release of critically acclaimed Love & The Death of Damnation, this rising star of modern Americana makes his way to UK shores for a number of shows in July 2016.
