Tim Key is a British actor, writer and performance poet who hails from Cambridgeshire, England. He has won many awards for his work and performs in a wide variety of roles, most of which he writes for himself. He also does quite a bit of spoken word performances and comedy acts that have fared well with audiences in the past.

He has fronted a number of sketch groups and also taken solo poetry shows around the UK. One of his most well-known works was a solo poetry show that featured deliberately bad poetry about zebras.

Band/Singer

Tim Key went to school at Histon and Impington Village College, and then attended Sheffield University, where he studied Russian. After graduation, he returned to his hometown of Cambridge and joined the Cambridge Footlights, a comedy group in town. This opportunity gave him the chance to make comedy and perform live in various venues. Soon, he had met other comics in the area and had begun writing more material with them.

Breakthrough

While Key was performing in Cambridge, he met Tom Basden, Stefan Golaszewski and Lloyd Woolf. With these three, he formed the sketch group called Cowards. However, it wasn't until he performed in the stage production "Far Too Happy" with the Cambridge Footlights at the Edinburgh Fringe that he was noticed by critics and nominated for a Perrier Award for Best Newcomer. That helped pave the path to greatness for Key, who went on to direct and produce more comic sketches at the Fringe.

Hit Albums

Key's first production, "Far Too Happy," was a huge success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Afterwards, Key went on to perform in sketch shows called "Non-Sexual Kissing" and "Alex Horne's Making Fish Laugh," both of which were big hits as well. His first solo poetry show, "The Slut in the Hut," sold out and was nominated for various awards, while his second poetry show, "The Slutcracker," won the 2009 Edinburgh Comedy Award.
