Van Morrison: Van the Man to headline 2018 UK festivals
The legend behind smash hits "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Moondance", Van Morrison's decades-long career and has produced one of the most revered back catalogues of music in history. Heavily influenced by his past in post-war Belfast, the musician's innovative songwriting and mastery of multiple genres from blues to jazz and country made him one of the most prolific and hardest working artists of his era.
In recent years, he has remastered his extensive catalogue with a series of duets alongside fellow artists such as Michael Buble and Bobby Womack, called – of course – Duets: Re-working the Catalogue, while 2017 releases Roll with the Punches and Versatile received some of the finest reviews of Van Morrison's long career.
To celebrate, he headlines several UK festivals in 2018, including Isle of Wight and Glasgow Summer Nights. Don't miss out on your chance to see him live – get your Van Morrison tickets at StubHub UK now.
Van Morrison: Irish legend back with his 39th album
Born in 1945, George Ivan Morrison grew up in post-war Belfast, listening to his father's collection of blues, country and gospel music. Taking inspiration from the likes of Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers, he became a travelling musician aged 13; singing and playing guitar in several bands, before joining R 'n' B group Them in 1964.
The star's soaring vocals and songwriting talent soon caught the attention of New York producers, who worked with him to produce what would become "Brown Eyed Girl". After the phenomenal success of this single, his first album Astral Weeks was released in 1968 to critical acclaim. However, it was second album Moondance in 1970 that would establish him as a major artist, becoming his first million-selling LP.
A succession of similarly successful releases followed, most notably Saint Dominic's Preview in 1972 which saw him return to a more alternative sound. After a short break in the mid 70s, Morrison returned with the fastest selling album of his career, Wavelength. Many have suggested that the musician had a rebirth into music in the '80s, which saw him explore his religious roots, with albums like A Sense of Wonder and Avalon Sunset, featuring a duet with Cliff Richard.
After the release of several compilation albums, more commercial success and touring the world extensively, the multi-instrumentalist astonishingly released his 39th studio album in 2018; celebrating over 50 years in the music business. One of the world's living legends, Van Morrison is still producing quality material half a century after he made his breakthrough.
