A Concise History of VfB Stuttgart
Verein fur Bewegungsspiele Stuttgart was formed through the amalgamation of Stuttgarter FV and Kronen-Club Cannstatt in 1912, though both clubs go back to the 1890s. VfB Stuttgart aka "Die Schwaben" (The Swabians) enjoyed considerable success during the pre-war years, winning its first German championship in 1950. The club would go on to collect a total of four crowns in eight years while led by legend Robert Schlienz. The '80s proved to be a high watermark for VfB with the 1986 team making the finals of both DFB-Pokal and the European Cup. Although both ended with losses to FC Bayern Munich (Pokal) and Napoli (Euro Cup), the appearances solidified the club's reputation for solid offensive play. After a brief stint in relegation, the new millennium witnessed a return to glory with qualification for another Euro Championship and an additional Bundesliga title in 2007, finishing ahead of FC Schalke. Join Die Schwaben as they pursue immortality. VfB Stuttgart tickets are ready now to buy or sell via StubHub.
Enjoy a Matchday with "Die Schwaben"
The winning formula that propelled the senior program also produced stirring results among the juniors. U19 teams have recorded 10 national championships with the U17s adding an additional 7 German titles to the club's honour roll. Fans and spectators of Vfb Stuttgart can enjoy home games at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Originally built in 1933, it has undergone several renovations, increasing its capacity to over 60,000. Under its original name (Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion), it hosted games during the 1974 and 2006 international football tournaments. Here head coach Tayfun Korkut and his team contest the annual derby match against SC Freiburg, along with matchdays against the rest of the German footballing elite. Whether outfitted in traditional colours of black and gold or the more modern red on white kit, fans of Die Schwaben always show up in force to support their club.
