Discover the early excitement of WWE NXT
WWE NXT is a hybrid reality television cum scripted live action programme that first aired in 2010, featuring the development of several rookies from the Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) training programme who were paired with seasoned professionals. Participants took part in wrestling matches and other challenges to receive points until the rookie field was whittled down to determine the winner and next big WWE star. The first season of WWE NXT introduced eight rookies, among them Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett and eight professionals, including The Miz and Chris Jericho, where Gabriel was eliminated in the last week of competition, leaving Barrett the winner. Season 2 of WWE NXT featured a rookie group that included Alex Riley and Kaval, where the latter was paired with two female wrestling stars (Layla and Michelle McCool) and emerged as the winner despite having a losing record in the competition. Both Kaval and Barrett as winners were rewarded with a title shot in one of the other WWE franchises, such as WWE Survivor Series, WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown. WWE NXT breaks new ground and more
The third season of WWE NXT welcomed an all-female cast in an exciting line-up change where rookies such as AJ, Kaitlyn and Naomi were paired with female pros including The Bella Twins, Goldust and Vickie Guerrero. Season 3 will also be remembered as the first time that the popular show was aired as a webcast on the WWE official website and for having the reward of a WWE contract awaiting the last woman standing. Kaitlyn, a last-minute replacement, would ultimately triumph as Naomi was eliminated by poll in the season finale. A shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship awaited the winning pair of rookie and pro as Season 4 of WWE NXT premiered in December 2010 and involved much 'trading' between the pairings, before rookie Johnny Curtis emerged as the winner, earning himself and his partner R-Truth the coveted prize. However, in typical wrestling entertainment fashion, shenanigans ensued that eventually saw Curtis pair with Season 2 rookie Michael McGillicutty for the tag team title, which they lost to Team Hell No featuring WWE star Kane.
