The budding artist grew up in Jan Juc in the south east Australian state of Victoria. He displayed a keen interest in music from an early age, even turning his mother's vacuum into a makeshift didgeridoo before learning the guitar, saxophone and clarinet. His early steps into music saw him influenced by a wide array of genres, from Hawaiian to Native American music. An extensive traveller throughout his youth, he first started a band on the slopes of Canada's Whistler Mountains, performing after a day of snowboarding.

The singer soon began to take music making seriously, and was inspired by the devastating 9/11 attacks in New York to write the song 'The 12th September' which appeared on his debut album To Let. The singer'sfirst major label release, Solace, saw the talented musician play every instrument on the album, and subsequent records Good Spirit, Food in the Belly, White Moth, Dark Shades of Blue, Koonyum Sun and Spirit Sun expanded on this clear potential as a band leader. For his latest project, the vocalist has teamed up with the United Nations - a group comprised of musicians from Africa, Australia, New Guinea, Samoa and Germany - to create 2015's Nanna.
